On Feb. 19, 1923: The Manitoba Free Press reported that a royal commission heard there was no evidence found at the Winnipeg offices of Standard Shipping to show that any official of the company had communicated with any person regarding a general fixing of steamship rates for carrying grain on the Great Lakes. Steel workers in Sydney, N.S., voted to end their strike and return to work. Two train coaches derailed on the Brandon-Estevan line; two passengers were hurt.
