Final flight: New federal travel restrictions requiring all international flights to land at four airports in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver take effect at 10:59 p.m. CT and will remain in place until at least April 30. Flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport that had been scheduled to arrive in Winnipeg today have been cancelled. A jet bound for the Twin Cities departed from Winnipeg this morning, while a later outbound flight has been cancelled. READ MORE

The latest on Myanmar coup: Police in Myanmar have charged the nation’s deposed leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, with possessing illegally imported walkie-talkies, her party said. The charges against Suu Kyi, who was detained Monday along with other senior politicians in a military coup, appear to carry a maximum sentence of two years in prison. The Associated Press reports. New case numbers: Manitoba health officials will announce the latest COVID-19 numbers at a news conference this afternoon. The province announced 83 new cases of the disease Tuesday, including 18 in Winnipeg for the second consecutive day. The province did not report any COVID-19 deaths Tuesday because of a “data reset.” Danielle Da Silva reports. READ MORE

On Feb. 3, 1970: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that U.S. president Richard Nixon, already under Israeli pressure to increase military aid to offset increasing Arab strength, was faced with a report that the Soviet Union was increasing arms shipments to Egypt. After a cold snap, Winnipeg was expected to see above-normal temperatures. Manitoba could expect to receive more than $15 million from the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation to launch the province’s largest-ever public housing program. Philosopher Bertrand Russell died of influenza, at the age of 97, in his home in North Wales. Winnipeg moviegoers could see such films as Easy Rider, A Dream of Kings, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Consider the Possibilities.
