Free Press Head Start for Feb. 6

Good morning!

The recent cold snap looks to be over, with temperatures above zero today and later this week.

And in case you missed the Grammy Awards last night, Beyoncé emerged as the big winner, becoming as the ceremony’s most decorated artist in history. Canadian artists Michael Bublé and Drake also took home awards, there were plenty of bold looks on the red carpet, and Viola Davis’s audiobook win made her the winner of a Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony.

A former Ukrainian soldier’s warm Winnipeg welcome involved scaling a 60-foot tower of ice — and he wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. “I felt joy from the fact I succeeded,” said Michael Malets, an electrical engineer who joined the fight against Russia before deciding to start a new life here. He arrived just two weeks ago and is embracing a new winter sport. Katie May has the story.

The secretary of the Retail Butchers Association told an audience in London that Britain should increase its imports of Canadian cattle. Meanwhile, 35 carloads of livestock went east, headed for Europe, the largest individual shipment that had left western Canada for 15 years. Search our archives for more here.
