New COVID-19 numbers: Provincial health officials are scheduled to announce the latest COVID-19 numbers at a news conference this afternoon. The province announced eight deaths and 162 new cases of the disease, including 67 in Winnipeg, over the weekend. Julia-Simone Rutgers reports. READ MORE

Bucs, Brady win Super Bowl: Quarterback Tom Brady won his seventh Super Bowl as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs for their first championship since the 2002 season. On Feb. 8, 1921: The Manitoba Free Press reported that in a provincial bylection, C.D. MacPherson was re-elected in Lakeside, earning more votes than in the previous election, and became Manitoba’s minister of public works; in West Peterboro, Liberal candidate G.N. Gordon won. A dispatch out of Stockholm reported that in Moscow, Soviet war minister Leon Trotsky warned that nothing must be done to irritate Japan, and that German sympathy was in the Soviet Union’s interests. The U.S. war department planned to use former German warships as targets in tests to determine the effectiveness of air attacks on naval vessels.
