Omnitrax speaks: Nearly three weeks after Omnitrax Canada decided to close its Churchill grain terminal and cut rail freight service, the Denver-based company has broken its silence and blasted the federal and provincial governments, accusing them of trying to drive the company out of Manitoba. Omnitrax CEO Kevin Shuba told the Free Press the province is reneging on a funding agreement and the federal Liberal government is stalling a proposal to sell the port and railway to a consortium of first nations READ MORE

The 16-year-old from Toronto tied for first in the 100-metre freestyle to capture her fourth medal of the Games. She is the first Canadian to reach the podium four times in a single summer Olympics. Fossil finds a home: A 90-million-year-old fossil has found a new home at the Manitoba Museum. The museum revealed the relatively complete fossil and a full skeletal reconstruction of a pliosaur Thursday. The pliosaur was a large marine reptile that lived in the saltwater sea covering most of Manitoba during the Cretaceous period. The new permanent addition to the museum’s Earth History Gallery has been dubbed “Chomper.” READ MORE

A long wait: After thwarting a home invasion and subduing a man on his doorstep, a 29-year-old Bannatyne Avenue man had to wait for more than 90 minutes for police to arrive after calling 911 on Thursday. The man, who did not want to give his name because the suspect threatened him and his father, said he called 911 at 6:15 a.m. Police arrived at 7:49 a.m. – 99 minutes later. READ MORE
