Third teen involved: We begin this Friday with disturbing news from the RCMP. A third teen has been charged in connection to the beating of two female workers late last month at a Selkirk-area treatment centre for boys, Sgt. Bert Paquet confirmed to the Free Press late Thursday. The attack occurred May 29 at the Behavioural Health Foundation, and two boys, aged 16 and 17, are in custody facing a long list of charges. The family of one of the victims, Jackie Healey, a Red River College student who was doing an internship at the centre, say they’ve been told a third teen has now been arrested. Healey, 23, was blinded in one eye, her skull was fractured and her teeth broken. The other woman assaulted, a staff member at the centre, was reported to have suffered severe injuries to her head and jaw. READ MORE

Your forecast: The risk of thundershowers continues this morning in the Winnipeg region. Environment Canada says the rain should be gone by mid-morning and we’re in for a mix of sun and cloud the rest of the day. There is a risk of a thunderstorm late this afternoon, and the high is 29 C. We’re in for a half a good weekend, or so it seems. The forecast calls for a sunny Saturday and a high of 21 C, but showers return Sunday and won’t end until late Monday night.

Scratching their heads: There’s no way 16 acres of land should cost $20.4 million, say commercial land appraisers. They’re slamming Manitoba Hydro’s asking price for a piece of land the City of Winnipeg needs to purchase, to complete a transit corridor. The city doesn’t get it, either — and the battle shows no signs of letting up. READ MORE

Dog park deal done?: After two years of negotiating with the city, the Kilcona Park Dog Club finally got a deal on paper, only to find dog owners on the hook for just about everything. The deal says the city expects them to do snow removal, grass mowing, garbage removal, trail-clearing and provide security and policing for the park. Oh, and there are hundreds of dollars of fees the club must pay, too. Dog owners say the agreement is impossible. READ MORE
