Matt Dunham / The Canadian PressBritain’s Prime Minister David Cameron says he will resign by the time of the party conference in the fall after Britain voted to leave the European Union after a bitterly divisive referendum campaign.

Britain to split from EU: We begin the day in Britain where the people – some 52 per cent of them – have spoken. The votes have been counted in Britain’s referendum and the result is clear: following months of bitter campaigning, it is leaving the European Union. When the victory for the so-called ‘Leave’ side was secured early this morning, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation and admitted the country now needs “fresh leadership.” He will leave office in October. Meanwhile, the British pound dropped by 10 percent, reaching levels not seen 1985, and global markets are taking a massive hit. READ MORE

Plea to mom on run with kids: Winnipeg police are pleading with Sandra Giesbrecht to return her two children. On Thursday, Det Sgt Shaunna Neufeld, coordinator of the Winnipeg Police Service missing persons unit, addressed a press conference as if she was speaking directly to Giesbrecht — as one mother to another — to bring back Montana, 11, and Josh, 9, home. “I want to help you,” Neufeld said. “I’m waiting for you to connect with me. I know you are a smart intelligent woman. There is a way to work this out.” The kids were last seen Monday night getting into a white-coloured car in the Crestview area. READ MORE

Sneak peek of bike routes: Winnipeggers got the chance to see plans for the makeover of Garry Street as a protected cycling corridor. It includes a three-metre cycling lane, two southbound lanes, a parking lane, a metre-wide curb separating cyclists from traffic, wider sidewalks, street paving, new traffic signals and new underground water mains. The design is the result of year-long consultations and was chosen because it was deemed the safest for cyclists and allows bike travel in both directions. READ MORE

Who will Jets take?: It’s been nearly two months since the Winnipeg Jets were major winners in the NHL draft lottery, moving from sixth position all the way up to No.2. Well, tonight’s the night, fans. The NHL entry draft takes place in Buffalo, and, while it seems a slam dunk that the Toronto Maple Leafs will select Arizona-born centre Auston Matthews with the first pick, it’s not a complete given that Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and his scouting staff will pluck young Finnish scoring sensation Patrik Laine. They could turn to Laine’s countryman, forward Jesse Puljujarvi, instead. READ MORE
