On March 17, 1984: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Winnipeg’s executive policy committee approved a $10-million civic and provincial aid package for the ailing Winnipeg Jets. The governor of the Bank of Canada said the weakening Canadian dollar could drive up inflation. Court granted a Virden couple, both Jehovah’s Witnesses, the right to access medical records for their baby daughter, who was being given blood transfusions against their will and who had been made a ward of the Children’s Aid Society after her parents had refused to authorize the transfusions. Winnipeg moviegoers could see such films as Splash, Lassiter, The Big Chill, The Dresser, Terms of Endearment, and Footloose. READ MORE
