On Jan. 11, 1950: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Manitoba would enter a partnership with Ontario to develop northern hydroelectric power sources. Federal prosecutors planned to move against an alleged combine — an illegal anti-competitive business arrangement — in the glass industry. The so-called “dew drop” gang, young men identified partly by their wearing of large-brimmed hats, was harassing teens at events in Winnipeg.
