Scheduled for sentencing: Nicholas Bell-Wright is set to be sentenced today for second-degree murder in the death of Cooper Nemeth, 17. He pleaded guilty in November to killing the teen, whose body was found behind a garbage bin a week after he was fatally shot in February 2016.
Supreme Court case: A hearing will begin today before the Supreme Court of Canada for a case that could force lawmakers across the country to give First Nations a role in drafting legislation that affects treaty rights. Mikisew Cree First Nation in northern Alberta is seeking a a judicial review of changes made under the previous federal government to the Fisheries Act, the Species At Risk Act, the Navigable Waters Protection Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
