Curling commences: National mixed doubles trials that will determine Canada’s first Olympic mixed doubles curling team start today in Portage la Prairie. Two of the 18 teams consist of players who have both won Olympic gold in four-player curling, including Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones (Mark Nichols) and Kaitlyn Lawes (John Morris). READ MORE
Show announces anchor: Hoda Kotb is the new co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, alongside Savannah Guthrie, it was announced. Kotb, who will continue to host a later segment of the show with Kathie Lee Gifford at least temporarily, fills the role left open when Matt Lauer was dismissed amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

Majority OK with marijuana stores: Sixty-one per cent of Winnipeggers and 51 per cent of rural Manitobans say they would feel comfortable if a marijuana store opened in their area after the federal government legalizes cannabis, a poll conducted for the Free Press found.
