Decision in drug case: A judge is expected to announce his verdict today in the case of a former CFL player accused of drug charges. Jordan Reaves, who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and in two pre-season games for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, is the son of former Bombers standout Willard Reaves. READ MORE

Canada Post plan: The Liberal government will announce its plan to reform Canada Post today. Ottawa will make its decision to stop converting home delivery to community mail boxes permanent but won’t restore door-to-door delivery that was removed under the previous Tory government, The Canadian Press reports. Sentencing hearing scheduled: A sentencing hearing will continue today for Nicholas Bell-Wright, who has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2016 killing of 17-year-old Cooper Nemeth. On Monday, it was decided all 96 victim impact statements submitted to the Crown will be admitted, but only 16 will be read aloud in court. READ MORE

Intersection inaccessible: Two elevators in the concourse under Portage and Main are out of service, creating problems for people with mobility issues. “We cannot blame the property owners. Singer to make statement: Elton John says he will make an announcement about his “future” this morning. The superstar’s performing stint in Las Vegas ends in May, and British media report he’s expected to announce his final world tour. Last year, he cancelled concerts because of a bacterial infection he contracted during a tour.

On Jan. 24, 1962: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Soviet Union threatened a “complete ideological break” with communist China if the latter pursued “opportunistic ways,” meaning open defiance of Moscow. A United States official said Canada and Japan would be expected to make concessions on tariffs in any negotiations undertaken by the U.S. to reduce tariffs of its own with the European Economic Community.
