Flak over flight: Two Tory MLAs were out of the country when Premier Heather Stefanson advised caucus members to remain in Canada amid the surge of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. On this date

On Jan. 25, 1935: The Winnipeg Free Press reported 160 people were rescued off the coast of New Jersey from the S.S. Mohawk, a Brazil-bound freighter, after it collided with a Norwegian freighter, the S.S. Talisman, in bad weather and sank. Winnipeg, having recently gotten a respite from frigid temperatures, was soon to be back in the deep freeze. Burglars struck three homes in the North End, making off with furs, clothing and jewelry worth $700.
