An extreme cold warning remains in effect for Winnipeg and the rest of southern Manitoba. It’s a dangerous situation for the city’s homeless population.

The Western Canada Lottery Corp. has initiated contact with the Winnipeg resident who won a record $60 million. The WCLC knows who the winner is because the ticket was bought online.

Three people who allegedly supplied ammunition to the gunman in last year’s deadly mass shooting in Nova Scotia are scheduled for court hearings today. All three are charged with unlawfully transferring ammunition to Gabriel Wortman, who was fatally shot by police.

On Jan. 27, 1920: The Manitoba Free Press reported that in Winnipeg, a request to change the venue for the trial of leaders in the previous year’s general strike was refused by a judge in the assize court. The notion had been brought forward by one of the accused, who said that the minds and prejudices of the people of eastern Manitoba had been inflamed against the accused men.
