On Jan. 28, 1965: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that city council objected to a provincial plan to build a $1.5-million magistrate’s courthouse in the proposed Manitoba arts centre area east of Main Street. In Edmonton, a German immigrant was charged with murder after a night security officer was shot at a plant where four American F-84 jets were damaged by dynamite. In London, royalty joined around 200 disabled veterans from both world wars to honour Sir Winston Churchill as his body lay in state.
