Members of Parliament will meet in the House of Commons as protests against COVID-19 measures that started with a convoy across Canada enter their third day. No arrests had been made as of Sunday, but critics say calling the protests “peaceful” downplays their dangers. Niigaan Sinclair’s latest column is about driving through a stream of vehicles in Winnipeg supporting the protests.

A winter storm watch is in effect for most of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg.

Actor Howard Hesseman has died at age 81. Members of Generation X such as myself grew up watching him play disc jockey Dr. Johnny Fever on WKRP in Cincinnati and a teacher on Head of the Class.

On Jan. 31, 1936: The Winnipeg Free Press reported the governor of New Jersey ordered police to reopen their investigation of the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby; the governor had defied threats of impeachment to grant the man convicted of the crimes a reprieve from execution.
