Free Press Head Start for Jan. 5

Good morning.

Manitoba health officials will hold their weekly news conference on the pandemic today. The province announced 1,757 new COVID-19 cases and a test positivity rate of nearly 40 per cent on Tuesday, and that most students will learn remotely for a week when schools reopen Monday.

Stricter COVID-19 measures that include limiting indoor social gatherings to five people indoors and 10 people outdoors are now in effect in Ontario. Hospitals are under orders to pause non-urgent surgeries.

An extreme cold warning is in effect for Winnipeg.
