On July 20, 1971: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Brandon city council voted in favour of an increased annual levy over 20 years to provide $1.5 million that representatives of the Keystone Centre said was needed to complete the project. The Manitoba legislature was considering three farm bills, which would make repair parts more speedily available and provide increased protection for farmers. Two men from North Kildonan pleaded guilty to operating an illicit still and were fined.
