Road reopens: The Trans-Canada Highway was shut down between Falcon Lake and West Hawk Lake for about 12 hours after a crash late Sunday morning. The provincial government announced shortly after 12:15 a.m. today that the stretch of road had reopened. RCMP are expected to release more information about the collision later today.

Iran announces arrests: Iran says it has arrested 17 spies recruited by the CIA to spy on nuclear and military sites and that some of them have already been executed, The Associated Press reports. READ MORE

On July 22, 1963: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that following a weekend of negotiations in Washington,. D.C., Canada would be exempt from U.S. president John F. Kennedy’s proposed new tax on American purchases of foreign securities. In Moscow, Soviet sources said a working party was putting finishing touches on a treaty that would ban nuclear weapons testing in the air, under water, or in outer space.
