Sentencing submissions: A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Daniel Vernon Williams. He was convicted earlier this year of manslaughter in the death of his 21-month-old daughter, Kierra Elektra Star Williams. The baby from Peguis First Nation died of internal bleeding because of an injury inflicted by her mother, Vanessa Bushie, in 2014.
Report release: The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union will release a report that analyzes the effects of privatizing the province’s air services. The Tory government announced this month it plans to sell Lifeflight air ambulances and begin leasing out water bombers.
Attack on African enclave: About 800 migrants stormed border fences that separate a Spanish enclave from Morocco early today, throwing stones, feces and quicklime at police officers. Sixteen migrants and five officers were taken to hospital.

Family flees bear: A family that had a frightening experience with a bear in Whiteshell Provincial Park earlier this month wonders if the animal is the same one who injured a young camper last weekend. On July 26, 1997: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the RCMP had arrested Larry Fisher, a convicted rapist, in the 1969 Gail Miller murder case; the arrest came a week after DNA evidence exonerated David Milgaard, who spent 23 years in prison for the crime, and implicated Fisher. Organizers of the 1999 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg struck a deal with the federal and provincial governments to cover a $40-million shortfall. READ MORE
