Unusual alcoholism program: An alcohol-addiction treatment program coming to Manitoba allows clients to continue drinking during their recovery and beyond. VIA passengers return: Via Rail passengers are expected to be back in Winnipeg today after their train derailed about 3 a.m. Thursday 37 kilometres north of Hudson Bay, Sask. On July 6, 1956: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Russia’s premier Nikolai Bulganin hailed an era of world peace in a radio statement, explaining that Russia was now disarming because the threat of war had vanished. West German chancellor Konrad Adenauer bristled at Soviet Communist party leader Nikita Kruschev’s remarks that there would be no unification for Germany.
