Overworked nurses: Nurses at St. Boniface Hospital have worked an unacceptably large number of mandatory overtime shifts, according to their union: “They’re trying to do the best they can, they’re going to work, they’re staying for 16 hours. Sirens for Life: Emergency service workers in Winnipeg hope to donate 300 units of blood today in a campaign they call Sirens For Life. Mayor Brian Bowman and Fire Paramedic Chief John Lane will attend the event at Memorial Park that begins at 12:30.
Change of command: Snappy salutes and well-polished shoes will abound at 17 Wing today during a change of command ceremony. Colonel Andy Cook will relinquish command to Colonel J.P.E. Charron. Winnipeg’s 17 Wing conducts and supports flying operations and a variety of training functions.

On June 28, 1995: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Manitoba patients waited two years for elective heart surgery, more than six times longer than anyone else in Canada. Winnipeg had fewer traffic accidents in the previous year than in any other year on record.
