Locked out for life: Bystanders at Old Market Square did a double take on Thursday when they saw a young man sitting silently in a wheelchair inside a cage. Yes, a cage. It was a protest by a man with physical challenges who says he was “locked out of life” after he left high school and aged out of many of the supports and services he needed. Carol Sanders reports. Inaugural lacrosse celebration: Canada Day activities abound, but a new one will be a celebration of lacrosse at the inaugural Canada Day Lax Bash on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Forks. Scheduled events include an Introduction to Lacrosse workshop, a first-ever match of young athletes from Roseau River and Long Plain Manitoba, and experienced local lacrosse players demonstrating skills required to play the fastest game on two feet.

On June 29, 2005: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that continued heavy rain and potential flooding threatened to wipe out nearly a quarter of Manitoba’s crops. Canada became the third country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. A new receiver/manager was appointed to direct the troubled Crocus Investment Fund.
