What’s happening today
The 25th annual Agassiz Festival, highlighting classical and contemporary chamber music featuring an ensemble of local and international artists, continues today. This year’s festival, titled Sounds in the Key of Spring, takes place primarily at Canadian Mennonite University’s Laudamus Auditorium. Downtown Winnipeg was flooded with colour Sunday as thousands took to the streets in celebration of the city’s annual LGBTTQ+ pride parade.
“I’m elated, honestly, it’s the greatest joy of my life to see everyone just doing their thing, being themselves and getting along together,” said Dante Greenslade, who attended the event with her wife, Clover.
“The biggest thing for me is seeing just how many young people there are and how they feel comfortable. Just seeing that they get to be themselves and figure this stuff out in a safe space.” Tyler Searle has the story.

On the bright side
Chris Melnick has been booked solid for two decades. The St. Vital resident is the founder of Share the Magic, a registered charity that collects new and gently used books and redistributes them throughout Manitoba.
Since 2004, the charity has given away 740,000 books with an estimated value of more than $4.5 million. Aaron Epp has more here.

On June 3, 1925: The Manitoba Free Press reported in Regina, the Liberal Dunning government was swept back into power with its sixth consecutive victory. In Fraserwood, Man., police said man died during a drunken party after he was hit over the head with a wooden neck yoke; provincial police were searching the area for the assailant, who could face murder charges.
