Opening intersection: A request for proposal released Tuesday states the city is planning to reopen Portage and Main to pedestrians by the fall of 2019. The city expects to award the contract by July 16. Aldo Santin reports. READ MORE
Student still in hospital: The Maples Collegiate student struck by a car while lying on the ground outside the school in an apparent game of chicken remains in hospital. Darren Thomas, risk manager with the Manitoba School Boards Association, says he’d never heard of such a game. “That’s a new one for me… and if it becomes a safety issue we’d obviously address it, but it doesn’t seem to be a widespread thing,” he says. Traffic notes: The Perimeter Highway was closed for a one-kilometre stretch west of the intersection with Highway 6 sometime before 4 a.m. because of a crash. This evening, Sargent Avenue will be closed in both directions from 6 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning for railway crossing repairs. Meanwhile, the William R. Clement Parkway, which connects St. James and Charleswood, will be closed to northbound and southbound between Grant Avenue and Roblin Boulevard from 7 p.m. tonight until 4:30 a.m. Thursday for a film production.

Train trouble: Conductor Tim Buzunis says the miniature steam train at Assiniboine Park may resume running at noon. Pre-summit meeting: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron this afternoon on Parliament Hill. The two are meeting before the G7 summit in Quebec later this week.
Anniversary of assassination: A ceremony will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Robert F. Kennedy, with relatives and former president Bill Clinton attending. Kennedy, a former U.S. attorney general, was shot at a Los Angeles hotel while seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.
