On June 7, 1950: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that a U.S. destroyer had rescued 37 survivors of a charter plane crash who had watched in horror as a fellow passenger was eaten alive by sharks; the twin-engine C-46 had crash-landed into the Atlantic Ocean 270 miles off the coast of Florida. Meanwhile in Quebec City, a clockmaker was charged with murder in a September transport plane bombing that killed 23 people. In Manitoba, a flood relief fund drive whose target was $10 million stood at $3.6 million.
