On the bright side

Two giant inflatable ducks made a splash in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor today, marking the return of a pop-art project that sparked a frenzy in the city a decade ago. The Associated Press reports.

On June 9, 1971: The Winnipeg Free Press reported St. Boniface constituents, mostly New Democrats, questioned Larry Desjardins’ right to represent them in the provincial legislature as a member of the NDP; he had only formally joined a party a month earlier, having previously been a Liberal-Democrat. In Ottawa, the federal agriculture minister, in light of depressed prices received by producers in Manitoba and Ontario, announced a purchase program to stabilize egg prices.
