MPI service centre reopens: Manitoba Public Insurance’s Main Street service centre reopens today. The facility has been used solely as a drive-through COVID-19 testing site for nearly two years. The virus testing site, run by Shared Health, will continue to operate even as MPI services such as licence photos and payments, and driver testing, resume. READ MORE
Charest to enter fray: Jean Charest will formerly launch his campaign for the leadership of the federal Conservative party in Calgary. The former Quebec premier and leader of the national Progressive Conservative party has been out of federal politics for more than 20 years. Other declared candidates include Ottawa-area MP Pierre Poilievre, rookie Ontario MP Leslyn Lewis and Independent Ontario MPP Roman Baber. The Canadian Press reports. READ MORE

On March 10, 1961: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that two Ontario newspapers were found in contempt of court and the papers’ owners, Thomson Newspapers Limited, fined $3,000, stemming from articles and pictures published after the arrest of a man later convicted of murder. The president of Winnipeg-based TransAir said the recent awarding of the majority of Distant Early Warning system supply contracts to his company would make it the third-largest airline in Canada.
