On March 2, 1982: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that a woman who claimed she didn’t see the zeroes on a $1,200 cheque was taking legal action against the Lucky Dollar Store in Niverville, where she cashed it for $12 two years previously; the store denied any wrongdoing but was offering the woman $600. A homeowner in the north Logan area accused the city of turning off water service and issuing “final notice” water bills to local residents in an effort to force them to leave their homes rather than fight expropriation by the city to make way for a proposed industrial park. In Miami, a would-be plane hijacker was foiled when a passenger tackled him and flight crew restrained him until he was arrested by police and FBI agents.
