On March 20, 1935: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Winnipeg faced a $330,000 budget deficit and would seek help from the finance committee of the school board at a proposed joint meeting. The Manitoba Legislature heard arguments in favour of and against a proposed city business tax. In Ottawa, Parliament was to consider a bill setting a minimum wage for employees in manufacturing and commerce, applying to workers of both genders over 15 years of age.
