Revised restrictions: Provincial health officials will announce details about the next round of public health orders. The current orders expire Friday. On March 23, 1934: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Winnipeg Monarchs were knocked out of the Allan Cup playoffs, despite a bruising 5-4 victory over over Fort William. In Wilkie, Sask., Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Bates, prisoners since Dec. 5 after being accused of murdering their son, were acquitted by a jury. The jury found Crown prosecutors had not proven the couple had attempted a murder-suicide pact via carbon monoxide poisoning, and that medical testimony showed the boy’s death could have been from another cause. In Ecuador, an inventor’s son planned to demonstrate his father’s “metaglota,” a machine said to translate nine languages.
