MMF on ‘misinformation’: The Manitoba Metis Federation will hold a news conference this morning to discuss legal action it plans to take over “misinformation” by Premier Brian Pallister. The provincial government has nixed a proposed $67.5-million agreement between the MMF and Manitoba Hydro, a dispute the Tories mentioned in a mass fundraising email to supporters. Seeking bail: Andrea Giesbrecht, who was sentenced this summer to eight and a half years in prison for concealing the remains of six dead infants in a storage locker, is scheduled to appear in court today. It’s expected she will ask to be released on bail while she awaits an appeal of her convictions, The Canadian Press reports. READ MORE

On March 28, 1947: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Manitoba provincial budget forecast a surplus of nearly $4.5 million, thanks in part to liquor and gasoline taxes. Winnipeg’s municipal budget was balanced, at about $13 million. A U.S. diplomat formerly stationed to Bulgaria and Turkey said he doubted “more than 10 per cent of us will be alive five years from now” due to U.S. reluctance to bomb the Soviet Union with atomic weapons. Manitoba’s oldest resident, Mary McPherson Brown, died at the age of 107. READ MORE
