On March 6, 1969: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Manitoba moved closer to representation by population with the final report of the electoral boundaries commission, which would mean the greater Winnipeg area would get seven new MLAs under redistribution, an increase of one in the northern part of the province, and a decrease of eight electoral divisions in the rural portion of the province. Mining, tourism and trade could boost Greater Winnipeg’s population to 800,000 by 1981, according to a report to be delivered to the Manitoba legislature. READ MORE
