Good morning.

The impending return of Grade 12 provincial exams has reignited questions about when the province will roll out a new and long-awaited English Language Arts curriculum for senior years students. “It’s backwards; you can’t have a test before you know what you’re testing,” said Ryan Wiens, a high school teacher in Winnipeg. Maggie Macintosh has the story.

And a Manitoba man responsible for a fatal highway collision while “significantly intoxicated” on booze and meth has been sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison. Dean Pritchard reports.

On March 7, 1939: The Winnipeg Free Press reported Winnipeggers woke up to the coldest March day since 1887, with the low hitting -35 F. In India, Mahatma Gandhi ended his fast when the British and Indian governments intervened to assure a settlement of his demand of liberalization of the government of Rajkot state. In Halifax, an inquiry heard evidence that a hotel fireman, dismissed the night before a disastrous fire at the Queen hotel, was heard to say, “There’ll be a lot more than me out of a job tomorrow,” to the acting manager.
