Coronavirus crisis

Ship set to dock: The Grand Princess cruise ship, which has 21 people onboard diagnosed with COVID-19, will dock in Oakland today. The 237 Canadians on the ship are set to be flown to an air force base in Ontario, unless they are showing symptoms. READ MORE

Municipal matters: Finance committee chairman Coun. Scott Gillingham is speaking at a Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce breakfast, days after the city’s first four-year budget was unveiled. Arrest in cold case: The Free Press spoke with the mother of Nicolle Hands, who was fatally stabbed in her Winnipeg apartment as her three children and a babysitter slept nearby in 2003. On March 9, 1979: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the NHL’s decision not to add four WHA teams, including the Winnipeg Jets, to its league meant a proposed $15-million expansion to the Winnipeg Arena would not be built; the city had already committed $3.5 million to a “bare-bones” expansion to the facility, which was operated by Winnipeg Enterprises Corporation. The premier of Iran’s provisional government, Mendi Bazargan, resigned, but his resignatation was turned down by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. READ MORE
