Sweden is expected to formally seek membership in NATO sometime today amid Russia’s war on Ukraine. Neighbouring Finland is also inching closer to membership.

McDonald’s has started the process of selling its Russian business, making it the latest major Western corporation to leave the country because of its invasion of Ukraine.

Manitobans marched to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on Sunday to show solidarity with Ukraine.

On May 16, 1931: The Manitoba Free Press reported that fires in forested and grassy lands menaced an expansive area from the western tip of Lake Superior to eastern Saskatchewan. Riding Mountain National Park was threatened with destruction even though every available man in Dauphin and surrounding communities was called up to battle the blaze there. The Free Press’s first general crop report for the year indicated a substantial decrease in wheat acreage because of drought conditions. READ MORE
