Free Press Head Start for May 19

An apparent attempt by shoppers to leave a local Giant Tiger store without paying for a cartload of groceries has put shoplifting, inflation and food insecurity in the spotlight. Tyler Searle has the story.

At the end of 2018, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre’s land-based learning centre in Hillside Beach on the south end of Lake Winnipeg burned to the ground. A replacement facility — Grey Buffalo Grandfather Wellness Lodge — was completed last year after a lengthy design process in the midst of the pandemic. Martin Cash reports.

And Thursday night, the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes played the sixth-longest game in NHL history, which went into a fourth overtime before the Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk scored the winning goal for a final score of 3-2.
