Skywalk shooting detailed: An optometrist described on Tuesday how a man with a pair of scissors on a pole was acting irrationally in his office in a downtown skywalk before he was shot by police on Monday. “The guy was undone and completely irrational. Outlet mall opens today: Today has long been a red-letter day for Manitoba shoppers as a highly-anticipated 400,000-square-foot factory outlet mall opens for business. When completed, Outlet Collection Winnipeg, 555 Sterling Lyon Pkwy., will feature about 100 retailers, including anchor tenants such as Saks Off 5th, Old Navy, F21 Red, DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse and Winners. Public Private Partnerships: Premier Brian Pallister announced Tuesday Manitoba will consider building four new schools with Public Private Partnerships (P3s). Columnist Dan Lett is not an automatic booster: “Pallister will reap the political rewards for having brought new schools to four school-starved communities at a time when the government is fiscally constrained. U of W cuts sports team: The University of Winnipeg has frozen salaries, cut senior management jobs and axed sports teams in order to shave millions off its 2017-18 budget. The men and women’s wrestling teams, as well as the men’s baseball team, are done after this season. U of M faces charge: The University of Manitoba was the target of an unfair labour practice charge on Tuesday during the first day of a hearing in front of the Manitoba Labour Board. The allegation was made by the U of M Faculty Association over bargaining last year that led to a three-week strike in November. Nick Martin was there. READ MORE
