On May 31, 1929: The Manitoba Free Press reported that in the United Kingdom’s national election, the Labour party made significant gains, sweeping industrial districts, the Midlands and the north, while the Conservative party was behind in number of seats won, as of the latest election results available. King George V had a feverish attack and was confined to bed at Windsor Castle. In Winnipeg, the buildings of Berkdale Dairy and Golden Paint Works in St. Boniface were destroyed by fire.
