Late-night loss: The Jets will have a brief skate this morning after their loss last night before heading to Nashville. The Predators beat the Jets 2-1 at Bell MTS Place to tie their second-round NHL playoff series 2-2. Game 5 is Saturday in Nashville, and Game 6 is Monday in Winnipeg. Trump talks: U.S. President Donald Trump will speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention today in Dallas, the fourth consecutive year he has addressed the meeting. OmnitraxChurchill has been isolated since a flood washed out portions of the rail line that connects the northern community to the rest of the province.
Rail line to reopen? A group of First Nations says it has formed a partnership with Omnitrax, the owner of the Hudson Bay Railway, to reopen the shuttered rail line to Churchill. A company called iChurchill Inc. says in a news release it hopes to sign an agreement by June so the rail line can be fixed before the fall. READ MORE
Evacuations ordered: The Kilauea volcano in Hawaii erupted last night, sending lava shooting nearly 50 metres into the air in a residential area near the town of Pahoa on the Big Island. About 1,500 people have been evacuated. READ MORE
Myanmar mining site: A landslide of jade-mining waste killed at least 14 people in northern Myanmar today. People often settle near the mounds to scavenge for jade in the high piles of waste, The Associated Press reports.
