Good morning.

A battle raged inside a steel mill in Mariupol, where blockaded Ukrainian troops are fending off Russian attackers. Some fear the troops would be killed if they surrender. The leaders of Britain and Japan are meeting in London to announce a new defence agreement against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. The Assiniboine Park Zoo is holding a Day of Solidarity with Ukraine event on Saturday. The Free Press spoke with April Wine’s frontman about his song For Ukraine.

Fences were set up outside the U.S. Supreme Court building, where protesters have gathered after a draft decision that would reverse abortion rights was leaked, on Wednesday night. The Women’s Health Clinic in Winnipeg has received an increase in calls since the draft was leaked.

Israeli police entered a holy site to clear away Palestinian protesters after Jewish visits paused during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr resumed.
