Good morning.

The lack of security within Health Sciences Centre’s parkades and surface parking lots has reached untenable levels, with rampant theft leading to fear and low morale, HSC nurses say. “I feel unsafe all the time.” said one nurse, who has been working at the Winnipeg hospital for 22 years. Tyler Searle reports.

Manitoba is loosening rules around when students can enter French immersion and increasing the minimum number of credits required to graduate with a bilingual diploma. Maggie Macintosh has the story.

On May 5, 1987: The Winnipeg Free Press reported the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission suspended the Transylvania Inn’s dining room and cocktail lounge licences for three months after a large quantity of U.S. alcohol was allegedly found on the premises. Manitoba premier Howard Pawley said he was prepared to pull out of the Meech Lake constitutional accord if it became clear the agreement would inhibit Ottawa’s ability to implement spending in key areas such as health and welfare. Virden’s mayor called for strict speed limits on trains after two men were killed in a truck-train collision on a foggy stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway near the town.
