The fix is not in: Two Transcona homeowners’ anger is mounting with the City of Winnipeg over what they see as a lack of accountability and responsibility over property damage which was the result of a broken water main under their lawn in November 2013. The water main was fixed in a timely manner, but according to Kristin and Matthew Lamontagne, the followup work to restore the sidewalk and part of their lawn has never been done. READ MORE

On April 17, 1958: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Tunisis would ask the United Nations Security Council for the evacuation of French troops from the whole of North Africa. In Winnipeg, contractors bidding for the job of constructing the Disraeli Freeway were driving down the estimated price, perhaps saving the city as much as $800,000 or one-third of the expected cost of the project.
