Flood watch: In Winnipeg over the weekend, flood fears were lessened and the situation was stable. In parts of southern Manitoba however, ice jams have caused overland flooding and at least five municipalities have declared states of emergency. Carol Sanders reports. READ MORE

Big plans for Grant Park: The city is holding an open house from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Pan Am Pool, 25 Poseidon Bay, to display a plan that would transform the area bounded by Grant Avenue to the north and Taylor Avenue to the south, which already includes the Pan Am Pool, the Charles A. Barbour Indoor Arena, and outdoor soccer fields. The city is exploring additional amenities including a modernized indoor arena, open green spaces, community gardens and a new public library.

West Broadway booming: Construction is about to start on a new apartment and commercial complex in West Broadway. The four-storey, 50,000-square-foot project is being built on the southeast corner of Maryland Street and Westminster Avenue. It will include about 12,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space and 44 rental apartments. It’s one of three new mixed-use buildings being built in the area. Murray McNeill reports. READ MORE

On April 3, 1990: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that in Winnipeg a man was sentenced to three life terms in prison for a high-speed car chase that ended in a crash and the deaths of his three passengers. Federal Liberal leader John Turner defended the rights of hecklers.
