On track for trouble: With rail service from Thompson to Churchill suspended last week because of flooding, residents and businesses in the northern Manitoba community are facing shortages of essential goods — including food — that are too expensive to be flown in. On June 5, 1931: The Manitoba Free Press reported that the DO-X Skyliner completed its flight across the Atlantic Ocean, flying from the Cape Verde Islands to Fernando Noronha off the coast of Brazil. The Winnipeg board of trade expressed disapproval at the new method of collecting the sales tax, which had risen from one to four per cent.
