On Nov. 14, 2001: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Northern Alliance forces poured into Kabul, Afghanistan, on trucks, tanks and troop carriers, having driven the Taliban from the city. The Winnipeg Free Press and the Brandon Sun were sold by Thomson Corp. to Ronald Stern, a Vancouver businessman with deep ties to Winnipeg, and Bob Silver, chief executive of Western Glove Works.
