Youngest to die from disease: The Free Press spoke with relatives of the youngest person to die from COVID-19 in Manitoba. Conrad Garson said his daughter Jenn Garson Sinclair, 38, was born with a hole in her heart and previously contracted the H1N1 virus, which caused permanent lung damage. “She had a zest for life even though she went through all these battles,” he said. “But she fought and she fought, right to the last breath.” His daughter moved back to her home community of Fisher River Cree Nation earlier this year, required hospital treatment and was transferred to St. Boniface Hospital in late September. She tested positive for COVID-19 in late October amid an outbreak at the hospital. Jason Bell reports. READ MORE

Coronavirus count: Dr. Brent Roussin, the province’s chief public health officer, will give his daily COVID-19 update today. Manitoba reported a record positivity rate of 13.6 per cent Tuesday, as well as seven deaths and 270 new cases. Danielle Da Silva reports. READ MORE

Non-teacher subs sought: Facing a shortage of much-needed substitute teachers, the Louis Riel School Division is seeking to hire non-teachers who would be certified and given a teaching permit. “The feeling is that with this pandemic and all the unfortunate impacts on us as a community, we think maybe there are folks out there with undergraduate degrees that would welcome an opportunity to work,” superintendent Christian Michalik said. Getting tests tougher: A doctor at a St. James medical clinic says Dynacare’s decision to close 14 labs because of concerns about physical distancing means patients will have to travel farther for bloodwork and other lab tests. “I have a fair number of patients that are seniors, they are in their 80s and 90s,” Dr. Ahmed Haleis said. “How can they access this?” Julia-Simone Rutgers reports. Set to release stats: Statistics Canada will announce the inflation rate for October this morning. There was an increase of 0.5 per cent in September compared with one year earlier, and another near-zero reading is expected for last month. The Canadian Press reports. READ MORE

On Nov. 18, 1974: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that in Athens, Greek premier Constantine Caramanlis, who had led Greece back to democracy after seven years of military dictatorship, won a landslide victory int eh country’s first parliamentary election in more than a decade. In Ottawa, finance minister John Turner was set to present his fourth budget, amid rising inflation and a tapering off of economic growth. A trade war between Canada and the United States was feared over a U.S. import quota on meat.
