Ambassador in the hot seat: U.S. Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland will face questions today as part of the public impeachment hearings into U.S. President Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine. Sondland is more directly entangled than any witness yet in the Republican president’s efforts to get Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden and Democrats in the 2016 election. Cabinet revealed: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce who’s in cabinet, but without the fanfare of his first cabinet unveiling in 2015. Ministers will arrive at Rideau Hall and be sworn in individually, with time afterwards to speak to media — the traditional, relatively low-key way cabinet shuffles are conducted. On Nov. 20, 1942: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Red Army units pressed hard after fleeing Germans in the deep Caucasus, following up a major victory that eased Nazi pressure on the Grozny oil fields near the Caspian Sea. In Alaska, Manitoba pilots and men of the ground crews were playing an important role on the joint front of Canada and the United States against Japanese invaders of the Aleutians. The Rome radio asserted that North Africa was only the springboard from which the Allies would pounce upon the European continent and that “Italy’s hour had struck.” READ MORE
