On Nov. 21, 1936: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Britain’s foreign secretary outlined the circumstances under which the country would go to war and declared the country’s military would never be used in a war of aggression. Lake Dauphin fishermen who had been stranded while attempting to save their nets, and were forced to jump from ice floe to ice floe, were all rescued safely. Thousands of nets on the lake were lost, and would remain under the ice all winter, catching fish which would then die and rot in the spring thaw. READ MORE
