What’s happening today
Katie German makes her Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre directorial debut with Little Women. On the John Hirsch Mainstage, an entirely local cast will portray the residents of Concord, Mass., with Bailey Chin (Jo), Ava Darrach-Gagnon (Meg), Julia Davis (Beth) and Megan Fry (Amy) playing the March sisters and Jan Skene as Marmee March. The show opens tonight and runs to Dec. 14. Ben Waldman has a preview here.

Bunting Lake, Snowy Owl is one of the works on view in Lineal Threads, a mother-daughter show featuring Winnipeg fibre artist Kathleen Black and her daughter and fellow fibre artist, Elowen Megan. Both artists use cotton, wool, silk and other fibres to create painterly landscapes and scenes, many of them Canadian in theme. Lineal Threads is on view now, Tuesday to Saturday, until Nov. 26 at Cr8ery, 125 Adelaide Street, 2nd floor.

Manitoba RCMP have pledged every front-line Mountie will be equipped with body-worn cameras within 18 months, beginning with officers in Steinbach, who will wear the devices when they step on shift Friday.
The news is part of a national rollout announced last week that has drawn mixed reviews.
Defence lawyers, police unions and the former head of the provincial police watchdog expressed praise for the program, calling it a beneficial tool. Others, including a professor who has researched such programs elsewhere in North America, were skeptical. Tyler Searle has the story.

On Nov. 21, 1968: The Winnipeg Free Press reported the Manitoba government opened the door to financial aid for people who suffered losses in July’s tornado but it would be limited to 25 per cent of the cost, up to a maximum of $4,000 to each farm affected. The Manitoba Centennial Commission extended the closing dates for bids from contractors and sub-contractors for the new Manitoba Theatre Centre building. In Bonn, the West German government readied for a showdown over its refusal to increase the value of the mark as a means of solving the world’s latest monetary crisis.
